Toys For Tots Finds Home at Bakerview Square
BELLINGHAM, WA. November 7, 2007 – Toys for Tots of Whatcom County will locate its Distribution Center at Bakerview Square this holiday season.
The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is a national campaign that collects and distributes toys as Christmas gifts to needy children throughout communities in the United States. Last year, Art Anderson was recognized as the Regional Coordinator/Campaign of the Year for his work in Whatcom County. In 2006 the organization collected over 11,200 toys in Whatcom County which were distributed to over 3,600 children. This year’s numbers will be even higher according to Anderson.
“We are so appreciative of the space that Bakerview Square has made available to us,” says Anderson. “Ninety seven cents out of every dollar we receive goes toward toys, so we rely on the incredible generosity of community leaders for other needs we have, such as space for our distribution center.” The distribution center is run by Art and many dedicated volunteers.
“When I heard of the need for space I saw an opportunity to help a worthy organization,” says Morgan Bartlett of Madrona Bay Real Estate Investments of Bellingham, Washington, the developer of Bakerview Square. “We are excited to have Toys for Tots be at Bakerview Square, and so are our other tenants. They are already lining up to help out.”
Toys for Tots of Whatcom County will have a kick off celebration November 17, and will have a remote broadcast from Bakerview Square on December 14. The distribution center collects toys from over 100 collection locations throughout the county, and then repackages the toys for distribution. The distribution center will operate Thursday through Friday, starting December 6 and running through December 22.
